hi, everyone.
my windows xp hangs when i shut down my pc, and it started to getting in to my head(annoying) sad.gif .
can any body suggest anything?
thanks
Killaloop
it hangs on shut down is not much detail.
when does it hang?
before or after ending all programs and services?
FiNaLBeTa
Some serviced program is hanging, use msconfig to disable all of them, and then enable them 1 by one till it hangs again. bit of work.

You can speed it up by disabling all of them.
Enabling half of them, if it boots, you know it's none of those, else you know it's one of those. Then do it with 50% of those you have left. etc etc...
I hope I'm making sense here tongue.gif

well, how do i know that what services have been shut down. i used to close all the application before i shut down the computer but i think obviously there is something wrong with the service here. or am i wrong?
i will try the msconfig see how it might change.
thanks guys! smile.gif

i enable all the start up items at start up in msconfig but is shown so differ. and it takes me ages to log on the computer regardless how i am unable or enable programs at start up.
is there any chance i can get the pc loads faster?
__t__
lol just do a system restore for sure it make true:P blink.gif
cd_room
i am unable all the start up items by using msconfig and enable 4 of them in the list and i am now able to shut the pc down but then sometime suddenly it just crashed and froze(duh). And it still take looooooong time to load.
Killaloop
sure windows is does not like it if you disable all the services
you are supposed to disable them all -> reboot
enable one and restart
try to restart again
if it works enable the next service - > reboot
try to restart
if it works enable the next few services -> reboot
do this as long as you are able to reboot once it hangs again you know which service causes this
and of course I hope you have safed your default settings which services are supposed to run smile.gif

ops, dear me! sad.gif
i disable all the start up items by using msconfig and look at some of them to see what they do and disable them because i don't really need many of them at start up time. for instance:itunes helper, hp...
if now i enable all the start up windows i certainly can shut the windows down properly but the thing is many unnecessary start up items i don't want windows load them at boot time because it just gonna slow things down and i am sure many of us hate staring at the monitor while you just want to get into the pc really fast, right(at boot time) biggrin.gif ?
and anybody know what does the ALCXMNTR.EXE do or what it is, i see it in start up items in msconfig but didn't know what i does so i disable it.

Intel Wireless Drivers (at least 2200BG) cause also a shut down hanging, when the device is not shut down before closing windows. You can't use your wireless device, and can't reinstall/uninstall drivers. The only solution I developed is to boot the computer in safe mode, and uninstall the drivers, and reboot it. Then everything works fine, and it reinstalls the drivers automatically. I saw this when having installed version 8.x and 9.x drivers.

i don't have wireless of any kind in my pc so it can't be a problem! biggrin.gif

Have u updated ur windows?? What service pack is it running ... Try installing sp2 if u hadn't installed it yet

and when does it hangs . when it shows Saving settings or at later stage .. ( disable themes service and windows will shutdown in 2k style showing its status ).

IN cotrol panel power options try disablig advanced power management .. i dunno if it will help even a bit but there's nothing wrong in trying tongue.gif
cd_room
my computer doesn't connect to the internet, and i used this one only for my personal use so i am not bother to keep it up to date with the lastest package sp2 but i did indeed disable power management.

thanks everyone,
everything is fine now, i am now able to put the pc in stand by mode and shut down without a hitch.
I unable all the items at the start up time in msconfig and i just enabled some of them, but it is good enough for the pc to shut down or stand by without being crashed. laugh.gif

sometimes proccess get stuck and u dont even know that people should look at the taskmanager and c if something stuck =)
cd_room

yes maintaining your system is time-consuming but saves time that you spend after things go bad... but again, with windows i say"GOODLUCK MY FRIEND" laugh.gif

If you want a PC more faster do a virus scan first.Secondly do a anti-spyware scan of all your pc and for finish try to do a "REG cleaner " after that 3 things do a msconfig. And the last thing to do its a DEFRAG. I think its a good way to get a pc more faster but the Best things to get a maximum speed its to format+reinstall your OS smile.gif
cd_room
Erm, every interesting, i will try that, out of all the possiable things WaTerBoy named, i could not think of anything else.
thanks laugh.gif
oh, format the hard disk is the last thing i can do, i can not afford to reformat my hard disk at least not right now. biggrin.gif
