hi

I used nmap, retina, GFI NSS etc. but none of these Scanner Truely identify the device / equipment on a Network / Address (IP/MAC)...

I need a Network Equipment Scanner / Identifier... if anybody know about this

one more thing... Although GFI NSS can identify HARDWARE / equipment on the basis of Digital ID (SNMP)... but not good enough... do anybody know about from where i can get LIST Digital ID and equipment name or some reading material (i tried different search enigne (google/altavista/yahoo etc.) but nothing found)

wating for reply...

well, nmap -A should've done something half decent...

http://www.astalavista.com/?section=dir&cmd=file&id=3852

^^ For a list of Manufacturers MAC Addy Prefixes

Also, just make sure your running the latest nmap, as there was a huge update of their db from 3.55 to 3.75

ive found solarwinds is quite good for identifying devices via SNMP

also have you tried languard scanner?

I heard of Lumeta's IPSonar, which is a great tool, but you have to make a request to Lumeta via e-mail... Check out hxxp://www.lumeta.com

Check out xprobe (fuzzy logic based, POSIX compilos)

SnackTime is ok too...(perl)

For Windows hosts I suggest winfingerprint (gives much detail about SP)

Hope it helps.

nmap -O does os fingerprinting and does give a fairly good idea of what devices on your network are. By digital IDs do you mean MAC address table or something else? Generally each company has a specific MAC prefix meaning you couldn't tell a Cisco switch from a router but you could tell that it was a Cisco (assuming it wasn't faking it).

nmap has that list in it and will report the vendor along with other info.

which is what i said in the first post

ifhope, are you sure your using these programs to their greatest extent ? and know all the output information ? GFI and nmap are the best scanners... I've never had a problem with them

just a though

Yeah, just looked up -A and saw it also did OS fingerpriniting. But it also does a bit more and he may only be looking for a type of device. Either way will work, I think it is more of a question of what he means by "digital IDs". To me that would either be the OS detection or MAC addresses.

yes Packet... u got my point... i am not concern with OS fingerprinting... i am looking for "Digital IDs"...

here is on file i am attaching using GFI I scan some IP and got the "Digital ID" of the Hardware.

[attachmentid=3277]

Look this snap... GFI don't have large database of "Digital IDs"/"Object IDs", so it don't tell u Hardware/Equipment Name mostly, only refer that, email it to LANGAURD to obtain this "Digital ID" respect Hardware name.

but actual issue is from where I can get List of "Digital IDs"/"Object IDs" and their respect Hardware "Name" & "Desription (if possible)".

i don't know if I got the point or not
but try: LanMapShot or LanSurvayor
