ok i know this is a really old program for nix password cracking but i have been trying most of the commands to get a password cracked/bruteforces but no joy

command used :

john -i:all password.file

now i dont know if the hash file is being bruteforced or cracked cos no details show up on CMD if press any key it says guesses 0 etc, aahhh i really need a decent unix bruteforce or if someone can tell me how john the ripper is meant to work

btw if its helps anyone the password is (standard DES [32/32 BS])

thankz for the reply basicly what i done was get a serv-u.ini file converted it to linux hash format and tried jtr left it all night which is about 7 hours and still nothing

just got the word list that came with jtr wondering if sent u the hash file if you can take a look ? or could keep on trying but dont think will have much luck there is only one password hehe

also search for Cain and Abel here in the forum..i have posted in exploits i think ? not sure ...will crack variations of MD5 encrytions + other encryptions...a good tool
