About a week ago, I inheritted a Cisco 3640 router. I'm not a Sys Admin, so this is almost useless I have 9 computers running in my household... I want to put this Cisco router to good use. It has one interface (WIC)

Some options that I have thought about or been suggested:
1) Use it for local purposes (A bit overkill but it can do the job)
2) Buy a 32 port hub interface use it for LAN Parties (An idiot thing to do but still be cool)
3) Make a net project out of it. Allow users to connect and test and work with it. (EX: College students with limited funds) Or another net project who knows.
4) Donate it to some charity.
5) Sell it

I Didn't make this a poll because I want your opinions not a number. As was said prior I don't mind throwing down 500 or so dollars in which to buy another interface or two.

But I need direction, and thats why I come to you guys... Lets be creative.

id buy it, but id say sell it to ur local cisco school or sommit .. or on ebay , personaly i agree its over kill for a home lan.. but still cool

It’s always great when you get a hold of things like this. So it’s geeky, so it’s nerdy, so what if you plug your Xbox into it and people think you’re a knob. At least you’ll be the coolest knob around. I have a 4.5 meter satellite dish in my back yard and I’ve heard them all. It’s great for conversation…

I get the impression that money’s not an issue for you so toss selling it. You could donate it to charity but they wouldn’t appreciate it (give’em some clothes instead). Let hackers connect up to it?!?! piff, let them find there own router to hack.

So what does that leave us with? You! I say keep it for yourself. If you can get a hold of some cheap interface cards then do so. Take it to LANs, take it to work, take it for a walk You get the idea.

I'm still at an issue with this, however I have been debating this, would be cool at LAN Parties... The XBox Idea is nice though. If anybody has suggestions other than the ones listed I'd love to hear them as well... ATM I'm leaning to the overkill side of the situation...

LAN is good but it isnt really put to full use then, i would choose charity for poor iT'ers
