Before I seemed to have no problem running LC5 and cracking hashes, but recently when I'd let my PC sit idle over night with LC5 running I'd come back to find my computer frozen. I thought maybe it was just LC5 but I even tried PWSEX and the same happens, any idea what might be going on?
I'm running:
Windows XP Pro SP2
P4 2.2Ghz
512 MB Ram
I have no idea why this would all the sudden start happening and it does it all the time and it makes it impossible for me to crack the passwords =/ PWSEX does save its position tho but it's gona take weeks to keep doing it restarting everytime =/.

What about other applications that uses 100% of cpu/hdd power?
It could be a bad instaled driver, heat issues, bad hardware or bad software.
btw, go for rainbow tables =)

Yea i was thinking about generating Rainbow Tables.. hmm I never thought about it being a heat issue, is there a way I could limit the use of my CPU power for LC5 or PWSEX?

You can always change the cpu priority to an aplication at windows task manager.
If it is really a heat problem, you should consider getting a new copper cpu cooler or/and a 120m case fan.

Well fulvioo I might need your rainbow table knowledge. Is there anyway to link the alpha and the numeric tables to get alpha numeric tables.
I generated LM ALPHA
I generated LM loweralpha
I generated LM numeric
Its fine until it encounters a password with upper and lower case characters so I assume that I need alpha numeric or I need to link the alpha and numeric tables or something. Any help would be lovely, cheers guys.

chris105, i regret to tell you, that is not possible to link or to merge them.
with ur LM alpha u will only able to crack A-Z and a-z and with ur LM numeric only 0-9.
Why did u generated them by yourself? Work as a team is much better and faster =)

Funny, i am travling at the moment and i met some people that seem to be having the same problem. Being the nice guy that i am, i lent them a helping hand. Are you aware that you have to liberate the SYSTEM file aswell to decrypt the the LM hash contained in the SAM file? PWDUMP(any version, 3e should be the newest at the time of this post) ran with admin privliges does this for you.
Have you tried cracking it with this site?:

There are two useful apps that I am trying to find again. One acts as a proxy server and jacks the lm password hash in the netbios/samba login process.
The other allows you to login to a netbios/samba share using a unmolested LM hash (IE you have to decrypt the SAM file with the SYSTEM file). On many defult winblows systems with the admin password you are able to login to the /windows or even the C:/ dir with wrtie privliges!
Well good luck, if you are intersted in these tools i bet i'll find them agin.
Peace out
p.s. Have you treid booting up with safe mode? I can't belive how well that trick works!
