Heylo, I was wondering if anyone knows of any good free (or a way to get them free..) recovery programs.
I'm not in urgent need of one, but it's nice to have one lying around if you need it, and I'm interested in how they work.

Encase is a great tool for data recovery (if this is what your looking for)
http://www.encase.com it's not free but like anything in this world it's aquirable.

I've got file recovery Pro 3 and I must says its a nice program. It does recover complete files. Once I recovered a 3 MB video file and it worked fine
I suggest u try downloading it from a P2P network. I use emule
