Saw this at another site... an "expert" posted it... I'm not running w2k, so I can't check it.

CODE

Get in windows 2000 as Administrator.

NOTE: Requires a boot disk.

Get the command prompt and go to C:\winnt\system32\config\ and do the following commands:
attrib -a -r -h
copy sam.* a:\
del Sam.*

reboot the computer. there should be no administrator password. just put in administrator and hit enter. replace the sam files to restore the password to hide intrusion.

I though if ya deleted the SAM file it would render your OS INOP...

well you then you need a boot disk wich has writing support for NTFS because as normally a windows 2000 systems runs on a NTFS files systems and an odinairy boot disk hasn't got NTFS support.

And i don't know if there is NTFS writing support for dos, I only know that there is reading support, but that is a while ago so maybe now there is.

this works 100% on win2k sp4 machine . yesterday i installed win2000 and forgot password i entered in setup . So i deleted sam and i was able to login as Administrator with no passsword . This do not work on xp though it gives some error (i dont remember that) .

Note: This technique is posted on this board b4r .Use search .

Also if u forgot pass but want to add a admin account without deleting other accounts then delete sam file and login as administrator . Make a bat file that contains command to add a admin account ( net user or something like that) . Schedule it to be launched after 1/2 hour or 5-10 mins .
Then restore old sam and restart ur pc . On specified time the bat will be executed by system even if u arent logged in .
This wll create a admin account without deleting other accounts smile.gif .
