hi and welcome to GSO

i you look at the header and were it says received...will give you the IP your looking for also the part were it says.. message-id will also give you the id providing there not using proxys ?

and if your chatting with someone on icq etc...then run a sniffer and take a look at the packets....providing there not spoofed

ps drop the large bold letters...we can see wink.gif

Hello,
As Comsec said you can look into the header files of your e-mail to view the ip were it's comming from.
About getting ips from ppl you're chatting with, there are some programs available to get such info through ICQ. Msn is harder, you have to send a file to that user to get his ip (then use netstat...) sometimes this doesn't work, i didn't figure why.. But didn't do research on it. About the tools just search www.google.com for example 'icq tools' or 'icq ip view' you'll find what you're looking for...

See ya around,

Getting the IP address through MSN has been discussed in an earlier thread

http://forums.governmentsecurity.org/index...p?showtopic=269

Hope this helps
P.S: The size of the file transfer in msn has to be 1024KB or above in order to get the IP through netstat.

An idea... is to grab all the ip addresses you can and then once you think you have victims ip address... try and get a general location on him... and then narrow down the search... smile.gif

I once had a guy harrassing me online, (making threats about beating me up at school, raping girlfriend, ect.) and just to be safe, I wanted to figure out where this guy was. (Try, at least)

I knew a few other people from a gaming site that was having problems with him, so I assumed he was from there, not someone who goes to my school, but hey, better safe then sorry, eh?

So I ran a netstat, screenshotted it, then came the tricky part. I had to get him to connect directly (it was over AIM) then I quickly ran another netstat, killed the connection, then took a screenshot and compared them..

Turned out, he lived in Georgia, and I live up in Maryland. My parents still freaked out, and had the captain of the hockey team shadow me for a week and a half... I find their lack of faith disturbing. tongue.gif

I actually got a thrill out of it... This guy who he was also harrasing and I both did it, compared notes, then called his ISP. Unfortunatly, they were assholes, and said "Well, if it's over AIM, talk to AOL." Like hell. smile.gif He called AOL and they said "Well, talk to his ISP."

Bah. smile.gif
